Want to take your breakfast to the next level? We've got three different za'atar egg recipes you can try. From a simple fried egg to a fried egg on toast, and for a really special breakfast—baked za'atar egg buns. These recipes are hearty, healthy, and downright delicious. The best part? You can cook all of them in less than 30 minutes!

We love eggs, and for several reasons. They've got good nutritional value, you can find them in any grocery store, and they're one of the easiest foods to cook. There are so many ways to cook an egg. You can fry them, poach them, bake them, scramble them, and so on. The point is, if you're going to make a meal, you can't go wrong with eggs.

And although eggs are great on their own, we can all admit that eggs aren't the most flavorful on their own. Even adding some salt and pepper won't cut it.

That's where za'atar comes in.

With just a sprinkle of za'atar seasoning, a simple egg can be transformed into a cornucopia of flavors. Below, we'll share three different ways to prepare eggs with za'atar seasoning. But before that, let's talk a bit more about za'atar and why it's such a great seasoning for your dishes.

What is Za'atar?

Once you've tried za'atar, it'll become one of your go-to seasonings in your arsenal. This middle eastern seasoning has been used since the middle ages. It's an incredibly versatile seasoning that can be used on proteins, loaves of bread, pastries—you name it. Za'atar can turn any dish into a savory and zesty flavor-bomb. How?

The secret lies in its ingredients.

Za'atar seasoning has five main ingredients—thyme, oregano, sesame seeds, salt, and sumac. The result? An explosion of nutty, savory, and tangy flavors that is sure to brighten up any dish!

And there is no better way to show off the flavors of za'atar than to pair it with something as simple as an egg. You can use it on fried eggs, poached eggs, egg whites, scrambled eggs—you name it. With all that said, we've got three amazing za'atar egg recipes below that you've definitely got to try out for yourself.

How To Make Za'atar Eggs - 3 Amazing Recipes

Because there are so many ways to cook an egg, we decided to give you three different egg breakfast recipes to try. We'll start off with a super-easy 3-minute za'atar olive oil fried egg. Then, we'll share our za'atar fried egg toast recipe. These are great for when you need something quick and tasty.

The third recipe is a bit more complex than the first two—it's baked za’atar egg buns with spinach and feta. But don't worry, this is still really simple to make. All three recipes are incredibly simple, and they all use more or less the same ingredients. Let's get started.

Za'atar Fried Eggs

For this recipe, all you need is an egg, za'atar seasoning, and some extra virgin olive oil. Crack the egg in a small bowl or dish. Over medium-high heat, warm a nonstick skillet. Once it's warm, switch to medium heat, then add about 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the skillet. Tilt the pan around to spread the olive oil evenly all over the pan.

Heat oil until it starts to shimmer. Carefully slide the egg into the heated oil. Be careful not to splash any oil on you. Season the egg with kosher salt and za'atar and cook for about two to three minutes, while spooning the olive oil on top of the egg. Fry eggs until the egg whites are cooked and crispy on the edges. Eggs with a runny yolk are perfect for dipping bread. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Za'atar Fried Eggs On Toast With Feta And Tomato

If you'd like to upgrade your za'atar fried egg, and add some crunchy carbs, we've got an alternative. Choose a bread of your liking and toast it. We recommend some sourdough bread. Then, prepare a few slices of tomato and some feta cheese.

Follow the same za'atar fried eggs recipe above. Once your egg is done, place it on top of your toast. Add tomato slices and feta cheese on top. You can leave it as is or toast another piece of bread and turn it into a delicious, flavorful breakfast sandwich.

Baked Za'atar Egg Buns With Spinach And Feta Recipe

Now, this recipe is a bit more complex and requires more ingredients and steps, but trust us—it is worth it. Next time you have family or friends over for brunch, give this recipe a shot:

Serves: 3

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 kaiser rolls or French buns
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups spinach
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Zesty Z za’atar seasoning
  • sea salt or Kosher salt
  • black pepper
  • olive oil
  • sour cream for serving
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 2 ounces feta, crumbled
  • butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°Fahrenheit or 180° Celsius. Heat oil in a skillet, add minced garlic, and cook over low heat until soft. Increase the heat from low to medium and add spinach.
