This Za'atar Yogurt Dip Will Wake Up Your Tastebuds

Looking for a new way to spice up your yogurt? Transform it into a savory, herby, and zesty dip with this easy za’atar yogurt recipe. It’s delicious with your favorite fresh vegetables, soft flatbread, or crunchy crackers.

Two-Ingredient Mediterranean Appetizer

Za’atar yogurt is a lightening-fast, two-ingredient, one-bowl appetizer that’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Use your favorite plain yogurt and plenty of za’atar condiment for a crunchy, flavorful dip that delights every taste bud.

Your guests will have no ideas how easy it is to throw toghter this impressive looking (and tasting) appetizer.

What Kind of Yogurt is Best?

We recommend sticking to plain yogurt for this recipe. Added flavors in the yogurt will interfere with the savory and bold za’atar seasoning. You can use Greek or regular yogurt if you have it on hand. But for the full Mediterranean treatment, we recommend stirring your za’atar into creamy labne.

Labne is a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern style of yogurt made with whole milk that’s been well strained. The result is thick, fluffy, and brilliantly white. It’s the perfect creamy base for our bold za’atar flavors.

Labne tends to be richer than other yogurts, so a little goes a long way. This makes it the perfect vehicle for dipping. Hungry guests will be satisfied but this appetizer won’t ruin their appetite for dinner!

If you can’t find labne, full-fat Greek yogurt is the closest alternative that’s readily available at most grocery stores.

How to Serve Za’atar Yogurt?

While you may be tempted to spoon this savory yogurt dip straight from the bowl, your guests might not approve. This is an easy appetizer for sharing. Pair the dip with warm, soft pita or flatbread, crunchy nutty crackers, or crisp raw veggies like carrots and cucumbers.

You can even turn za’atar yogurt into a complete, healthy dinner or lunch recipe. Divide the yogurt between bowls and add any of your favorite grain bowl toppings. Some of our favorites include:

  • Roasted mixed vegetables (coated in plenty of za’atar seasoning for extra zing, of course)

  • Crispy chickpeas

  • Farro, couscous, or other grains

At the end of the day, you’ll find that za’atar yogurt is a very versatile recipe. It even makes a fluffy and flavorful spread for sandwiches, pizza or wraps. This vegetarian, protein and calcium-rich spread might just become your new go-to two-ingredient recipe!
